🇫🇷 Mbappé Makes World Cup History as France Cruise Past Sweden
Kylian Mbappé etched his name into the history books after scoring twice in France's dominant 3-0 victory over Sweden, sending Les Bleus into the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16.
The French superstar became the highest goalscorer in World Cup knockout-stage history, reaching 10 knockout goals, while also moving level with Lionel Messi in the race for this tournament's Golden Boot with six goals. 🌟
⚽ Mbappé Breaks the Deadlock
Despite playing in scorching conditions, France controlled the match from the first whistle.
Mbappé came close several times, having one goal ruled out for offside before striking the post. Sweden's goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström made a series of brilliant saves to keep his side in the game.
However, just before halftime, Mbappé finally found the breakthrough. Latching onto a perfect pass from Ousmane Dembélé, he skipped past a defender with a clever stepover before calmly firing into the far corner to give France a deserved 1-0 lead.
🔥 France Turn Up the Heat
Sweden had a golden chance to equalise early in the second half but failed to make it count.
France punished that miss almost immediately as Bradley Barcola doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, finishing brilliantly after another excellent assist from Michael Olise.
The French attack continued to dominate, with Olise and Dembélé creating chance after chance as Sweden struggled to contain the relentless pressure.
👑 Mbappé Seals Another Historic Night
Mbappé completed his brace in the 74th minute, once again finishing clinically after being picked out by Olise.
The goal sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory and saw the 27-year-old break yet another World Cup record, becoming the competition's all-time leading scorer in knockout matches.
With six goals already in the tournament, Mbappé is now tied with Lionel Messi at the top of the Golden Boot standings.
🏆 France Set Up Paraguay Showdown
France now advance to the Round of 16, where they will face a confident Paraguay side that shocked the football world by eliminating Germany on penalties.
With Mbappé in sensational form and France looking stronger with every game, Les Bleus will head into the clash as favourites—but Paraguay have already shown they are capable of producing major upsets.
The World Cup dream is still very much alive for Didier Deschamps' men. 🇫🇷🔥
